Orient XXI needs you more than ever !

Will Palestine disappear from the news again ? While Israel regularly violates the ceasefire in Gaza, as it already does in Lebanon; while colonization and ethnic cleansing intensify in the West Bank and Jerusalem; while genocide continues quietly, the UN Security Council has voted on a resolution that perpetuates endless occupation and places Palestinians under the supervision of a body chaired by President Donald Trump. Thus, nothing has been resolved, and yet the media’s attention is already shifting elsewhere. Worse still, the repression of voices of solidarity with the Palestinians is intensifying, confirming the desire to criminalize solidarity movements. However, the French Court of Cassation has just confirmed the legality of the boycott of Israeli products. The cancellation of the symposium on Palestine organized by the Collège de France and the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Paris (CAREP), and the censorship of the text by Palestinian-French sociologist Sari Hanafi in Le Monde, which Orient XXI published, reflect the desire to silence any initiative in solidarity with the Palestinians. Informing, analyzing, and explaining should be the role of the media. However, most often, they serve as an escort to genocide; they minimize the extent of the catastrophe and the Israeli government’s goal of wiping out the Palestinians. In this context, Orient XXI sees its duty as keeping Gaza, and more broadly Palestine, in the headlines – it is possible partly thanks to the diary of our correspondent Rami Abou Jamous. Our publication finds its raison d’être in two convictions: first, that now more than ever, the need for independent media to provide information independent of politics and the powers of money. Second, the desire to embody the values of solidarity and international law in a world increasingly dominated by the law of the strongest. That is why Orient XXI continues to appeal to you for funding, so that it remains dependent only on its readers. This is also why we are committed to remaining freely accessible: so that those who have the resources to support independent media can do so, and those in more precarious situations, especially those living in countries with low purchasing power, such as the Maghreb, can also have access to quality information. We say it frankly: it is impossible to produce quality information and provide daily coverage without a minimum of financial and human resources. We want to continue to offer reports, analyses, and investigations, and to give a voice and a face to Palestinians, Lebanese, and other victims of colonial repression and authoritarian regimes in the Maghreb and the Middle East. We also want to expose the unequal relations that France and the Western world maintain with this part of the world and the consequences this has on our society and its governance, with the development of state Islamophobia. For all these reasons, we have launched a fundraising campaign to raise €60,000. Remember: no donation is too small, every gesture counts. And we know we can count on you.
