Director of the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies, living in exile in France for the past six years. Within 11 months he was sentenced in two politicized trials by Egyptian courts to a total of 18 years in jail for his criticism of the human rights situation in Egypt and the judiciary’s failure to protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable.
