So that Orient XXI can continue its mission to inform

In the Middle East, the Israeli onslaught on Gaza has been going on for nearly twenty months now. It has been extended to the West Bank, to East Jerusalem, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen. It is the longest war in Israel’s history and has caused tens of thousands of deaths, most of them Palestinian. In Gaza especially, Israel has totally scrapped the framework of international human rights law. It has weaponized famine and blocked all aid, sanitary and medical aid included, practising mass extermination, and turning the Gaza strip into a killing field. This “online” genocide , filmed by its victims, but also by perpetrators proud to show off their exploits, would have been inconceivable without the help of the United States, withoutthe complicity of European governments, without the silence and the lies of so many western media.

From the very first day, OrientXXI, swimming against the tide, has spotlighted not only the barbaric nature of that assault, but also its main objective: to be done with the Palestinian people. And yet, even while the Gazans’ calls for help are beginning to break through the wall of lies, in France and in several other Western nations, it is the people denouncing the genocide who are being prosecuted for “justifying terrorism”, while those who glorify the genocide can do so with utter impunity.

This ongoing war has confirmed the need for independent media like OrientXXI that provide news undistorted by the media owned by billionaires, some of whom are hand in glove with the far right; nor in the service of a government and political parties which support Israel’s crimes; or controlled by those who spread Islamophobic propaganda.

We are proud to have been the first French publication to have a reporter in Gaza, the Palestinian journalist Rami Abou Jamous, and to have relayed a dissident voice during all these recent months. For his journals in OrientXXI, he was awarded the Prix Bayeux for war correspondents.

For nearly twelve years now, OrientXXI has been pursuing its path tirelessly. It has been able to do that only thanks to your support and your donations, which are the guarantee of our independence. Right now, to carry on with our work, we need €65,000 ($74,000) and once again we are turning to you. And once again, we know we can count on you.
